Hotspot Help

Our hotspot gateways utilise a web based login page and external authentication / accounting servers. This is why you must authenticate using your web browser before any other applications will connect to the internet. Your connection will be restricted to this site until you have authenticated.

Once you have successfully logged in, a small popup box will appear which you need to keep open so you can monitor how much time you have left and log out when you have finished. If you accidentally close the popup, you can just turn your laptop off or disconnect from the service.

Some web browsers block popup windows so you will have to either configure your browser to allow popup windows or physically disconnect from the network by disconnecting the wireless connection/cable or turning off your laptop.

If you are using your own laptop, please configure your wireless adapter to connect to the wireless access point and attempt to get to the login page before purchasing a prepaid ticket. (We are unable to offer support for configuring your hardware)

Turn off Internet Explorers popup blocker and any toolbar popup blockers like google toolbar.

There are two types of accounts available

30 and 60 minute accounts are based on "effective usage" which means you can use 10 minutes of your 30 minute card then logout. Tomorow you can login and use the remaining 20 minutes.

1,2 and 3 day accounts are called "time to finish" which means if you have a 1 day card and log in at 9am on Monday, then your username and password will work till 9am Tuesday the next day. These accounts are also locked to the computer that you first use to login with. Please keep this in mind if you are using a computer in an internet cafe because the same computer may not be available when you return to use your remaining time. You will not be able to share the same username/password combination on multiple computers.

Effective usage accounts with time left on them are deleted after 30 days of inactivity.

Active sessions will time out after 5 minutes of inactivity on "effective usage" accounts. "Time to live" accounts time out after 20 minutes. This is to help you not to waste your internet time if you forget to logout or are unable to logout for whatever reason. Please note that some applications create traffic that will keep the connection alive and you will not be logged out. It's best to be safe and just turn your laptop off or disconnect the wireless connection.

If you are traveling with your own computer, here are some suggestions to help you get connected.

- Make sure your network adapter is configured to use DHCP (automatically acquire an address)
- Remove any proxy settings in your web browser
- You can always try and shut down the computer and restart it after making changes
- Make sure your firewall isn't blocking the connection.

If you are prompted to dial your dialup account when you attempt to get to the login page, you will have to change the following settings in Internet Explorer. Go to =>>Tools =>>Internet Options =>>Connections. Change the radio button to "Never dial a connection"

If you are using a wireless network card to connect, then you must configure your computer to connect to the access point available. This is usually done by what is called a site survey although some software packages require you to manually create a connection. Under these circumstances, you will have to consult the documentation for your product.
